Sheraton Grand London Park Lane Hotel, London

Sheraton Grand London Park Lane Hotel, London

Untitled-1

A multi million-pound refurbishment that took two years has polished and buffed the Sheraton to its former silver-foiled Roaring Twenties glory (it first opened in 1927).

This is the kind of hotel that seeks to bedazzle guests with its glamour, but it’s also intimate enough to instantly feel at ease: sofas in the lobby are swaddled in plum velvet cloth, a cosy new affixed library area is lined with battered tomes by Rudyard Kipling and Edgar Allan Poe, and gorgeous carpets have replaced their grubby predecessors.

Afternoon tea in the Palm Court is a treat for guests who want to indulge in chakra silver-tipped white tea from Indonesia and smoked salmon and seaweed scones while a harpist plays.

The Smith & Whistle bar takes its name from the historical figures, Detective Inspector Smith and Mr. Whistle. It offers an extensive cocktail list, British draft beer, craft beer and fine English wines. The Park Lane Hotel is 20 minutes’ walk from London’s West End. Green Park Underground Station is a 5-minute walk and Piccadilly Circus is 10 minutes away.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Riveting/Fascinating facts about the area:
  • The Beatles played their last gig on the roof of Apple Corps at 3 Saville Row. It’s now an Abercrombie & Fitch store
  • London is full of pubs associated with artists, writers, and poets. The Fitzroy Tavern on Charlotte Street was famous for hosting Dylan Thomas, George Orwell, and satanist Aleister Crowley, who invented a cocktail once served there
  • Only one house where Charles Dickens lives still stands, at 48 Doughty Street, which is now a museum. He lived there from 1837 and 1839, and it’s where he wrote Oliver Twist and The Pickwick Papers

Interesting people:

Meet Banksy. A lot has been said about this pseudonymous, UK-based graffiti artist, painter, political activist, filmmaker and all-round provocateur, but he continues to draw attention over and over again with his witty and bold satirical street artwork of distinctive stencil approach and direct social and political commentary. Banksy started as the outlaw graffiti sprayer on the walls of Bristol in 1990, and since then, he managed to garner great worldwide fame and recognition (in 2010 he found himself in the company of Steve Jobs, Barack Obama and Lady Gaga on the Time magazine’s list of 100 most influential people). Most common subjects of his urban art include members of the royal family, policemen, rats, apes and children, and they mostly represent a harsh critique of capitalism, hypocrisy and greed in our world.
