Exclusive and luxurious are two words that describe this hotel best. Saint-James Paris Hotel is an elegant 19th-century building complete with its own private garden. In the kitchen, Chef Jean-Luc Rocha, Best Craftsman of France (M.O.F.) invites the hotel’s guests to discover his exquisite creations.
Originally built in 1892 by the widow of President Thiers to accommodate brilliant students, later the exclusive St-James Club (still based on the premises), the site was Paris’s first hot-air ballooning airfield – as remembered in Montgolfier tents on the outdoor dining terrace. Now totally redecorated by interior decorator Bambi Sloan, there are 48 suites and bedrooms, panelled dining rooms, galleried library and small spa, but, unusually for a grand hotel, everything is done with a sense of fun.
The striking former Thiers Foundation library now hosts the hotel’s head bartender, whose herb-based cocktails are a crowd-favourite. Every guest’s well-being and beauty treatments are in able hands at the Guerlain Spa. For relaxation, guests head for the Saint James’ lush private garden. The building also houses the exclusive Saint James Club. Guests can either have their meals at the hotel’s gourmet restaurant or on the terrace to enjoy the lovely weather.
