Perivolas Hotel, Oia

Perivolas Hotel, Oia

square

A splendid 5-star hotel, offering magnificent sea views, is located on the cliffs high above the Aegean Sea, a short walking distance from the picturesque Oia. Located in a restored wine cellar, the Perivolas Restaurant serves Mediterranean and Greek cuisine prepared with local products, only to hotel guests.

Intimate in scale and atmosphere, every house is different. Built by native craftsmen using local materials, interiors embody Cycladic style, with its organic forms and smooth surfaces. Airy rooms are naturally cooled by sculpted stone walls and vaulted ceilings pierced by skylights. Beds are built into snug alcoves, matched with low-slung sofas offset by hand-woven rugs and cushions in vivid fuchsia and lilac.

The hotel has no TVs and DVDs as guests are encouraged to switch off and indulge in some quiet time. It’s a sanctuary of sorts – a place to read, recharge, relax; to sleep, rest, and dream.

TOUR LOCATION

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Riveting/ fascinating facts about the area:
  • There are more churches than houses on Santorini, however most are small and private
  • Only 15,000 people live on the island, however over 1.5 million visit each year
  • The Venetians built over 500 castles on the island in order to protect it from pirates. Since the island was inhabited by the Venetians, many of the churches are not Greek Orthodox, but rather Catholic
  • There is so little rain on the island of Santorini, that wine is more plentiful than water
  • Since it’s so windy on Santorini, the farmers and vineyards grow crops in a unique way. For example, the wine grapes are grown on the ground in bunches rather than on vines
Interesting people: Christoforos Asimis is internationally known as ‘the painter of Santorini’. Born and raised in Santorini, Christoforos studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts and returned to Santorini to express his creative obsession and the sensibilities awakened in him by the Santorinean light and landscape. His signature is synonymous to the uniqueness of his depictions of the island, and this is why he is called ‘the painter of Santorini’. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
