Park Hyatt, Germany

Park Hyatt, Germany

per person
Untitled-2

Tucked away inside the historic Art Nouveau Levantehaus on Hamburg’s most famous shopping street Mönckebergstraße, the five-star Park Hyatt combines old-world hospitality with modern 21st-century touches and professional service.

With the Mönckebergstraße promenade right on the doorstep and other luxury shopping areas like Jungfernstieg and Neuer Wall a short hop away, guests have enough and more reasons to indulge. The Alster lake and main train station are just steps away, as are cultural sights such as the excellent Arts & Crafts Museum and the Kunsthalle.

The rooms are predictably solid and refined, with natural fabrics, subdued colour schemes and high-quality cherry-wood furnishings as well as Nespresso coffee machines, immense televisions and marble-clad walk-in bathrooms stocked with L’Occitane beauty products.

The low-ceilinged, wood-panelled Apples Restaurant — where the impressively lavish buffet breakfast is served — offers a menu of classic fish and meat dishes that can be chosen à la carte or as a five-course set-menu (with or without wines). Elevated seating allows guests to look over the open kitchen. Next door is the slightly less formal Apples Bar, which has a comprehensive vodka selection and decent cocktails, and a slightly sterile Smokers Lounge. Guests at the Hyatt can also use the 1,000 m² Club Olympus Spa & Fitness Centre with hot tub, sauna area, and fitness room free of charge.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Riveting/Fascinating facts about the area:
  • Hamburg has more bridges than Amsterdam, Venice and London together (approximately 2,500)
  • Hamburg has a little street where women are only allowed to walk through if they are prostitutes
  • Hamburg has the oldest opera in Germany (since 1678)
  • Hamburg is home to more millionaires than any other German city
Interesting people: Meet Annette Kelm, a photographer from Germany, who embodies the German concept of unheimlich (meaning uncanny, though it literally translates as un-home-like). This is because while her photographs draw us in with their clarity of detail and their resemblance to the classic genres of the still life or the portrait, the objects within them have been displaced from their cultural or temporal context, confounding our expectations and reminding us that there is no such thing as an ‘objective’ image. Kelm, who studied in Hamburg and now lives in Berlin, won the Art Cologne Award for Young Art early in her career, and has continued to flourish in a large number of group and solo exhibitions throughout the country.   [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
