Hoshinoya, Bali

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of a big city, this cocoon like hotel overlooks the Pakerisan River, with sacred water canals running through the property, part of the island’s age-old water temple network recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Landscape.

The hotel’s two-storey accommodations have been built by local craftsmen in distinctive Balinese style, with wide open spaces that perfectly match with the surrounding environment. This is most notable in the gazebos: locally inspired shelters from the intense Bali heat, which have been built using alang-alang (sacred grass). Inside, intricate carvings depicting scenes of natural harmony decorate the walls and furniture.

The surrounding dense rainforest and terraced rice paddies as well as the extended mountain range are among one of Bali’s most famous landscapes. This gorgeous land provides the most serene and healing vacation with its landscape dotted with Bali Hindu temples and shrines offering a spiritual atmosphere to its guests.

The hotel offers Balinese cuisine, with extensive use of local ingredients and spices. But it is fused with the culinary methods of Japan (due to its Japanese owners), with emphasis placed on the careful preparation and presentation of dishes. The hotel also has a spa which offers treatments using natural ingredients, as well meditation and yoga sessions in the morning and evening.
