The hotel is a gorgeous Georgian house, built in 1901 and owned by three generations of the Cunliffe family. The décor is glamorous boutique meets country house. Bookshelves, stylish lamps and black-and-white family photos surround the cosy drawing rooms.
Blending of the old and new gives a timeless balance, and every room is different, including the hotel’s three dining rooms, which provokes interest, and the sense of a journey as guests wander through the hotel.
Fishing, shooting, horse riding, mountain biking, paint-balling and treasure hunts can also be organized on-site. Summer sees the kitchen garden at the main hotel come alive, with afternoon tea and evening canapés taken outdoors.
The hotel’s smallest rooms have double beds and sofas, with views over the moors. The six spacious garden suites, beautifully decorated with Eastern accents are housed in an annexe off the main hotel and have private hot tubs. The Lake House, a six-bedroom property a mile down the road from the hotel available for exclusive use, is quieter with grander views.
