[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Riveting/Fascinating facts about the area:
  • Coffee came to Costa Rica in 1779 – it was imported from Jamaica, and was known as grano de oro or the Grain of Gold. For the next 150 years, coffee became Costa Rica’s biggest export. Today, Costa Rica is the 13th largest coffee exporter in the world, with over 240,000 acres are coffee plantations.
  • Drake Bay sits in a stunning, isolated strip of Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast, along the northernmost point of the Osa Peninsula.
  • Considered one of the most beautiful regions in the world, the Osa Peninsula has 430,000 acres protected by Corcovado National Park and private forest reserves, and the region is a magnificent track of unspoiled primary rainforest in Central America.

Interesting people:

Meet Óscar Arias Sánchez, who was President of Costa Rica between 1986–1990 and again from 2006–2010. The honourable Sánchez is a venerable politician who was born into an upper-class family in the province of Heredia, with ancestors like Ferdinand III of Castile and Henry II of England. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1987 for his work in ending the Central American crisis. A man worth meeting once in your life, Sánchez was also awarded the Albert Schweitzer Prize for Humanitarianism, and became a trustee of Economists for Peace and Security.
