If you want to play lord of the manor for the weekend then we suggest you head here. Expect immaculate service, four-poster beds, gorgeous gardens, and a spectacular spa. Guests can enjoy more than 200 acres of space, including a pair of polo fields, a turf-topped spa building that resembles something out of The Teletubbies, a rose garden, tree-lined corners, hidden benches, sparkling fountains and mystical bronze statues.

The spa comes with eight treatment rooms, the Spatisserie serving light meals (and Champagne), a Technogym and heated pool with underwater music.

As for rooms, there are 30 in the main house, and 40 more in assorted cottages around the grounds. All are luxurious and done up in serene whites and creams, with lots of natural light and great views.

The main restaurant of the hotel offers a modern British fare (mains include lamb with artichokes, fennel and aubergine puree, and Dover sole), while The Barn – the hotel’s casual dining restaurant offers macaroni and cheese, among other feel-good dishes.

TOUR LOCATION

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Riveting/Fascinating facts about the area:
  • The Beatles played their last gig on the roof of Apple Corps at 3 Saville Row. It’s now an Abercrombie & Fitch store
  • London is full of pubs associated with artists, writers, and poets. The Fitzroy Tavern on Charlotte Street was famous for hosting Dylan Thomas, George Orwell, and satanist Aleister Crowley, who invented a cocktail once served there
  • Only one house where Charles Dickens lives still stands, at 48 Doughty Street, which is now a museum. He lived there from 1837 and 1839, and it’s where he wrote Oliver Twist and The Pickwick Papers

Interesting people:

Meet Banksy. A lot has been said about this pseudonymous, UK-based graffiti artist, painter, political activist, filmmaker and all-round provocateur, but he continues to draw attention over and over again with his witty and bold satirical street artwork of distinctive stencil approach and direct social and political commentary. Banksy started as the outlaw graffiti sprayer on the walls of Bristol in 1990, and since then, he managed to garner great worldwide fame and recognition (in 2010 he found himself in the company of Steve Jobs, Barack Obama and Lady Gaga on the Time magazine’s list of 100 most influential people). Most common subjects of his urban art include members of the royal family, policemen, rats, apes and children, and they mostly represent a harsh critique of capitalism, hypocrisy and greed in our world.
