TOUR LOCATION

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Riveting/Fascinating facts about the area:
  • Tulum was once home to a pre-Columbian Maya walled city, which was also a major port for the city of Cobá. Even today, Tulum remains full of ruins and archaeological sites, located on 39 foot tall cliffs across the east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula.
  • One of the last cities to be built and inhabited by the Mayan Civilization, Tulum has some of the best-preserved coastal Maya sites, making it an extremely popular tourist destination each year.
  • In the old days, traders came from across the sea with goods such as salt and textiles for the city of Tulum. In return, Tulum exchanged their own goods, like feathers and copper objects, which were transported back via the Río Motagua River and the Río Usumacincta/Pasión system.

Interesting people:

Meet Mario José Molina-Pasquel Henríquez, a famous Mexican chemist known for his pivotal role in the discovery of the Antarctic ozone hole. This incredibly talented scientist chose to become professor at the University of California, San Diego, and the Center for Atmospheric Sciences at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1995, for examining the role of chlorofluorocarbon gases (or CFCs) and their threatening power over the Earth's ozone layer. Today, Molina works as a Climate Policy Adviser to the President of Mexico, and is one of the most celebrated chemists in the world.
